Inside Orion Terry Smith's Nursery
Orion Terry Smith,
My dear daughter. I write this just days before your "expected due date" as you transition from the womb to the outside world. Your presence has truly been one of my/ our greatest gifts. Your movements are fast, sharp, loving and oh so very welcomed! Your dad has been having dreams about the day he meets you. We're hoping that means it's near. He says you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen, with these big blue eyes, curious look on your face, calm presence and he just can't seem to put you down. Any day now, these dreams will no longer be dreams, they'll be our reality.
A few days ago, I excitedly got out my camera just before sunset and documented your room as it was one of the last things on my "before Orion arrives to-do list." What a joy it was. You see, the amount of thought, detail, preparation and love that went into creating a nourishing, vibrant, worldly space for you to grow in, was so important to both myself and your daddy. So much has happened to bring us to this very moment.
Your daddy was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. One of the most beautiful places in this world. We met while in Tanzania and the rest of history. From the moment we locked eyes, there was this knowing, this immense knowing that we had been together before, many lifetimes before. I spent years traveling back and forth between the United States and South Africa while we worked on his visa. Every day since he's arrived, truly feels like I'm living a dream, our life, is everything I ever imagined, and oh so much more.
Your room, a little "Bo-ho Safari Animal" theme. Complete with water color prints of jungle animals wearing flower crowns (of course), quilts made with some of the most beautiful African fabrics and love, African prayer flags with Nelson Mandela being right in the center, jungle stuffed animals bigger than your crib alongside so many inspirational books, little sayings and a whole lot of goodness to keep you nestled tight and stylishly dressed.
Across from your crib are prints of some of the neighborhood girls from when we lived on Mafia Island, Tanzania in Africa. It it my greatest intention that they serve as a constant reminder of how incredibly expansive, beautiful and unique this world truly is AND that anything, absolutely anything is possible as long as your heart, mind and body are in full alignment.
My girl, I hope you love this space as much as your daddy and I do and it serves as constant inspiration for the global lifestyle that has brought us to the very moment of you being in the world with us. We love you and cannot wait to share this space with you!
Love you more than imaginable so,
Your oh-so-very-proud mama.
